Turkish Sub Confronts Russian Ship in Dardanelles (VIDEO)

13:02 01.12.2015(updated 13:12 01.12.2015)

The Russian Navy transport ship Yauza was met by a Turkish Navy submarine while passing through the Dardanelles Strait on Monday, Russia's RT reports, citing Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News.

The Russian ship, passing from the Aegean Sea into the Sea of Marmara, is believed to have been on its way to the Black Sea. The video accompanying the news report was reportedly filmed in the city of Canakkale, on the southern coast of the Dardanelles, at their narrowest point.

The Turkish sub is said to have been accompanying a Turkish coast guard vessel.

The Turkish daily emphasized that this was a particularly tense moment, given the situation surrounding the Su-24 bomber shot down by the Turkish Air Force over Syria last week, which resulted in the deaths of two Russian servicemen, and a rapid cooling in relations between Ankara and Moscow.

Moscow has demanded an apology for what it considers an act of aggression on Turkey's part. Ankara, meanwhile, has refused, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stating at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday that "no country should ask us to apologizeWe apologize for committing mistakes, not for doing our duty."

The video also comes on the heels of reports that two Turkish Navy subs are following the Russian missile cruiser Moskva, off coast of Syria. The Moskva is charged with protecting the Russian air base at Hmeymim in the Syrian province of Latakia.

The Yauza, a 14,400 ton, a 133 meter transport ship, formerly a polar logistic ship, was obtained by the Russian Navy earlier this year, and handed over to the Navy after an overhaul and deep modernization in May. The ship, built in the 1970s, is equipped with new diesel generators, new crane equipment, and new security, communications and navigation systems.

On Tuesday, a military diplomatic source told Russia's RIA Novosti that Russian Navy ships are not experiencing any problems in passing through the Bosporus and the Dardanelles at the moment, adding that the Yauza's meeting with the Turkish sub is not out of the ordinary in conditions of heavy traffic in the transit zone.

Kremlin comments on Erdogan's challenge to reveal evidence of Turkey's purchases of IS oil

December 01, 13:10 UTC+3

According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the information on oil purchases from the Islamic State is necessary to fight the terrorist group, not to find fault with Ergodan

MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Information about Ankaras oil purchases from the terrorist organization calling itself Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) is crucial to fighting against terrorism, and not finding faults with the Turkish leadership, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, when asked if Moscow would make public evidence at its disposal Ankara had been purchasing crude oil from the Islamic State.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that should any such evidence come to the surface, he would be prepared to resign.

"This is not a new statement. In this case it is most important to have information at ones disposal and to use it in efforts focused mostly not on proving something but on the struggle with terrorism. And this information is being used precisely for the struggle with terrorism," Peskov said without elaborating.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday noted that Russia has grounds to suspect that the Sukhoi Su-24 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces was downed to secure illegal oil deliveries from Syria to Turkey.

The Russian president stressed that financial support to terrorists in Syria continues. "We have recently received additional reports that confirm that that oil from ISIL-controlled territories is delivered to the territory of Turkey on an industrial scale," Putin noted.

"We have all grounds to suspect that the decision to down our plane was motivated by the intention to secure these routes of delivering oil to ports where it is loaded on tankers," he said.

"Defending Turkmen is just a pretext," Putin noted.

In a phone conversation with the Russian president the British PM conveyed his condolences over the downing of the Russian Su-24 jet

MOSCOW, December 9. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and UK Prime Minister David Cameron have agreed in their telephone conversation that both countries have "similar approaches toward the threat coming from ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant former name of Islamic State terrorist organization) and other terrorist groups operating in the region (Middle East)," the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

The conversation was held on the initiative of the British side. "The leaders exchanged opinions on relevant issues of ensuring security in the Middle East, first of all in the context of efforts on settling the situation in Syria. It was noted that Russia and UK have similar approaches toward the threat coming from ISIL and other terrorist groups operating in the region. In this context, issues of establishing bilateral cooperation between different state structures should be discussed," the press service said.

Cameron conveyed his condolences over the downing of the Russian Su-24 jet. The Russian president invited British specialists to take part in deciphering data from flight recorders recovered from the downed jet.

On Tuesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu brought the black box from the Su-24 jet downed by Turkey over Syria on November 24 to Putin. The Russian president ordered Shoigu to open the black box only in the presence of international experts.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier today that the Defense Ministry will determine which international experts will be invited to deciphering flight recorders.

Military attache at the Turkish embassy in Moscow urgently invited to the Russian Ministry of Defence in connection with the incident in the Aegean Sea

http://eng.mil.ru/images/upload/2015/IMG_1902S.jpg

On December 13, 2015, the Russian guard ship Smetlivy staying 22 km far from the Lemnos Island in the northern part of the Aegean Sea prevented the collision with a Turkish seine vessel.

At 9:03 (MSK), watchmen detected the Turkish vessel at the distance of 1 000 metres approaching the anchored guard ship Smetlivy from the starboard.

Despite multiple efforts of the Smetlivy to establish a contact with the Turkish seine vessel, its crew did not respond to radio and semaphore signals as well as signal rockets.

After the distance between the Turkish seine vessel the Russian guard ship reached 600 metres, the naval small arms were used at the distance of guaranteed survivability of the target in order to prevent the collision of the ships.

Immediately after that, the Turkish vessel changed the heading and continued movement at the distance of 540 metres without contacting the Russian crew.

In connection with the incident in the Aegean Sea, Russian Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov invited the military attaché at the Turkish embassy in Russia to the Russian Defence Ministry.

On December 13, 2015, military attache, military naval attache at the Turkish embassy in Moscow Rear Admiral Ahmet Gunes has been urgently invited to the Russian Defence Ministry to have a conversation with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov.

The Turkish military attache has been made a strict representation concerning detrimental consequences of the reckless actions of Ankara towards the Russian military contingent, which is performing counterterrorist tasks in Syria.

In particular, the Turkish military attache was informed about deep concern over the provocative actions of the Turkish party towards the Russian guard ship Smetlivy in the Aegean Sea, which had had to open warning fire to prevent collision with the Turkish vessel Gechitsiler Balik Chilik.

Just by good fortune, the tragedy had been avoided.

Rear Admiral Ahmet Gunes promised to bring the representation to attention of Ankara immediately.
