Syrian Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi said Recep Tayyip Erdogan's suppression of the peaceful protests in Turkey yesterday is illogical and reveals his detachment from reality.

Al-Zoubi stressed in a statement on Saturday that the brotherly Turkish people do not deserve this barbarity, adding that it is unjustified that Erdogan should defy his people.

"We wish the Turkish people stability and calm…We call upon Erdogan to show wisdom and not to deal with the Turkish people in the same way he did with Syria," said the Minister.

He added that Erdogan leads his country in a terrorist way and is destroying the civil character of the Turkish people, reiterating that the Turkish people's demands do not deserve all this violence.

Al-Zoubi said if Erdogan is incapable of following non-violent means, he has to step down, stressing that the Turkish people have many and reasonable cadres.

Nearly 1,000 Detained, 79 Injured in Turkey Protests

ANKARA, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - Almost a thousand of people were detained and 79 injured in Turkey when police attempted to disperse nationwide anti-government protests, Interior Minister Muammer Guler told a news conference on Saturday evening.

The planned demolition of Gezi Park in central Istanbul sparked large-scale protests in the city on Saturday, prompting police to use tear gas. The controversial project is aimed at easing congestion around Taksim Square but also involves rebuilding old Ottoman barracks and creating a shopping mall in the park, one of the few green areas left in central Istanbul.

The rally in Istanbul triggered more than 90 separate protests in 48 out of the country’s 81 provinces.

“At the moment, 939 people were detained in various provinces since the start of the unrest over the Gezi Park issue. Some of them have already been released,” Guler said. “A total of 26 police officers and 53 civilians were injured during the riots. Nineteen of them are in intensive care in Istanbul, others receive medical treatment in their locations.”

Unrest still continues in Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul, Izmir and other Turkish cities.

According to the Hurriyet daily, about 20,000 people took to the streets in Ankara, protesting against the government’s policies and demanding resignation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Troops were deployed to keep protestors away from the premier’s residence.

“The Gezi park is just a small part of misdemeanors committed by Erdogan’s government. Erdogan is a dictator, we demand him to resign. Protests will continue tomorrow,” a protestor, who identified herself as Sevil, told RIA Novosti.

The Turkish Army went over to the protesting population of Turkey. Military hospitals are closed for police. The Turkish soldiers distribute to the population gas masks for protection against the unhealthy gas which is generously used by the Turkish police.

90% of Turks demand resignation of the corrupted Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

A young demonstrator was killed in Istanbul by a car that rammed into a crowd during a wave of protests against Turkey's government, a medics' union said on Monday

ISTANBUL - A young demonstrator was killed in Istanbul by a car that rammed into a crowd during a wave of protests against Turkey's government, a medics' union said on Monday.

The car killed Mehmet Ayvalitas, a member of a left-wing association, when it ploughed into demonstrators occupying a highway on Sunday, the third day of clashes between protesters and police, the Union of Turkish Doctors said in a statement.

It said the driver did not stop "despite all warnings", the statement said, suggesting the act was deliberate.

The non-government group blamed the death on the government's "intransigence" and condemned the authorities' hardline approach to trying to quell the protests.

"The first thing to do is stop the police brutality immediately," it said.

Rights groups and medics say several days of clashes have injured hundreds of people. The government's last estimate on Sunday put the figure at 58 civilians and 115 security forces.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is facing down the fiercest protests in his decade-long rule, sharpened by anger over his perceived authoritarian leanings.

Clashes have flared since Friday between police and demonstrators who accuse him of seeking to impose conservative Islamic reforms on secular Turkey.

Turkish delight served right on time to Mr. Erdogan

04.06.2013

The standoff between the secular part of the Turkish people, brought up in the spirit of Ataturk and the Turkish government has been going on for several days already. It all started because the authorities of Istanbul wanted to destroy one of the few parks in the city to build a shopping complex there instead.

When protesters gathered on the site, police used tear gas against them. The chairman of the Russian Society of Izmir, Andrey Ponomarev, told Pravda.Ru that such measures were not unusual for Turkey at all. Law enforcement agencies very often resort to them during riots.

But what happened next was not a usual development. People in several cities of Turkey began to take to the streets demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Mass rallies started across the country over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people took part in them, over 3,000 were injured so far, two people were killed.

Major Turkish media that belong to a small group of people associated with the government ignored the riots. They only aired usual entertaining television programs. The people became outraged. It is not the matter of the felled trees, and not even about how the police was acting against peaceful protesters. The people, who were keeping silence for long, rebelled. The Turkish people took a completely different look at their country.   They saw a complex social and economic environment, high unemployment - especially among young people - as well as government reforms designed to make Turkey a more Islamic country than it is today. The ban on alcohol, peace with the Kurdistan Workers' Party, interference in the affairs of Syria, an ill-conceived school reform and many other initiatives of Erdogan's government sparked furious protests in the country.

The prime minister again showed his iron will: "green light" was given to police to break up demonstrations brutally. That caused a backlash - people started setting offices of the ruling party ablaze. The crime rate related to robbery and rape increased, although it has nothing to do with the rebels. Such crimes are committed by local gangs, football fans or provocateurs.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the uprising has no specific leaders. Nobody organizes anything. They post messages on the Internet, and people come to specified locations. Even the opposition People's Party does not lead these protests. Some say that the protests, over the lack of leaders, may grow into uncontrollable riots. The civil society of Turkey may finally split into supporters of secular views and radical religious views. In this case, anything may happen.

MOSCOW / ANKARA, June 15 (RIA Novosti) - Reporter Arkady Babchenko, covering protests in Turkey for Russia’s Novaya Gazeta newspaper, was detained and beaten up near the Taksim Square in Istanbul late on Friday, the paper said.

According to a statement, posted on the newspaper’s website, Babchenko was taking photographs of police cars when a group of people in civilian clothes approached him and demanded that he ceased. Shortly after, they grasped his arms and attempted to detain him.

“When I tried to wrench myself from their grasp, they pulled me to a back alley and started beating me,” the paper quoted Babchenko as saying. “I’m in hospital at the moment. I’m unable to walk.”

The reporter was transferred from hospital to a police station early on Saturday. Babchenko believes that he was held on suspicion of attacking police.

The incident was filmed by other journalists, who later informed the Russian diplomatic mission in Istanbul about it.

A spokesman for the Russian consulate general said that “currently there is no threat to his [Babchenko’s] health.” He said the decision on the reporter’s detention will be made on Saturday morning.

Turkish police was not immediately available for a comment.

The Administration of the President of Barack Obama, State Department of the USA, proclaimed policy of the Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan an example of democracy, an imitation example for other countries of the Middle East. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the ardent supporter of democracy of the American sample, dares to criticize the Syrian government for not democratic treatment of oppositional terrorists cannibals.
